The Market Research Benevolent Association (MRBA) is the market research industry's independent, registered charity.

We provide financial assistance and support to people who work or have worked in our industry.  Over the years we have helped hundreds of people - regardless of title or position - with financial difficulties as a result of injury, illness, bereavement, carer responsibility or other personal problem.

This year's Online Charity Auction raises over £3,500

A very special thank you to all the generous donors and the successful bidders at this year's MRBA Online Charity Auction.

We raised over £3,500, which in this climate, is very much appreciated. With these funds we are able to offer a few more grants and loans to people who are most in need at the moment.

Some of this year's lots included a ski holiday in Courchavel, courtesy of Peter and Trish Parker; one week's stay in a cottage in Cornwall donated by Jennifer Bowen, one week in a house in the foothills of the Pyrenees thanks to Ruth McNeil; a holiday house in Portugal offered by Pat Brown; original paintings by talented artists Valerie Farbridge and Peter Bartram; as well as numerous bottles of wine and champagne from Nick Tanner, Cobalt Sky and LVQSue Robson and Bill Blyth's theatre tickets, as well as an 'evening at The Qualitative Lab' by Plus 4 were also well contested for.

We would also like to thank our other donors who included:  Sample Answers (golf); Barrie Parker (Portrait Photography Sitting); Ace Fieldwork (2 groups recruited); a meal out from Zeen of Drummond Street; a night on the town and a coaching session with Dan Foreman; a Jane Gwilliam jumper; Raz Khan (two figure studies); and Nick Palmer (a decanter).  The bottle of champagne was won by Claire Thomas of Leapfrog who kindly donated it back to the MRBA to be auctioned, and Pat Molloy was the lucky bidder at £50.

It is not too early for everyone to start thinking about what they could donate for the 2010 auction.  To pledge your support, please contact Linda Henshall @linda.henshall@newfieldwork.co.uk, or ring her on 01932 841036.

Thanks again to Linda Henshall and her team from The New Fieldwork Company, sponsors of this year's auction, for all the time and effort they put into creating the website and administering the whole event.

The Market Research Benevolent Association exists to help those who work or have worked in market research in any capacity, whether as researchers, interviewers, or office staff, as employees or independents, and whether members of The Market Research Society or not.

In complete confidence, the MRBA gives financial help to people -- who are sick, who have been bereaved, who have met with an accident, or who have suffered misfortune in any other way.

The MRBA may give an outright grant or make a loan. And sometimes it can supplement an applicant’s income for a time, when adverse circumstances reduce their ability to earn a living. Of course, every claim has to be investigated carefully, but the MRBA is as generous as it can afford to be.

Now you may know all this, but one of the biggest problems is that not everybody in the industry does -- and we can’t help in a case that we don’t know about.

Please make your colleagues and other friends across the industry aware of the MRBA and ensure that they let people in need know of the Association’s existence.

If you feel that anyone you know may need and be eligible for the help that the MRBA can give, please contact the MRBA Secretary/Treasurer, and be assured the enquiry will be treated as strictly confidential:

To enable it to continue with its work, the MRBA also needs the help of donors and volunteers from within the market research industry. If you would like to enquire about the ways you can do this -- say, through a regular subscription, a one-off donation, or by helping to arrange fund-raising activities -- please contact Danielle Scott or visit our online donation site here.
