As promised, the trio comprising Justin Gutmann, Malcolm Rigg and David Smith completed their Ghent to Aix sponsored 200km bike ride on 7th -11th September, 2007.
This raised over £2,000 for the MRBA, and thanks are owed to them and to the 55 generous donors who contributed to the splendid total. Inspired by Robert Browning’s original poem (see here), the epic ride was followed by the commissioning of an updated ode by the poet Gabriel Chanan.
This runs to 72 lines,starting with…
“They sprang to the saddle with vigour and glee Justin and David and Malcolm all three All in the cause of the MRBA Follow me, Malcolm cried, for I know the way. We retrace the hoofs of the original riders That’s fine, said the others, what better to guide us. They peddled, they peddled, they peddled so fast with David reliving his marathon past and Justin performing spectacular stunts when Malcolm called out between quizzical grunts: although I have followed just where the map led I could swear that last signpost said Luton ahead”…etc etc

The Market Research Benevolent Association exists to help those who work or have worked in market research in any capacity, whether as researchers, interviewers, or office staff, as employees or independents, and whether members of The Market Research Society or not.
In complete confidence, the MRBA gives financial help to people -- who are sick, who have been bereaved, who have met with an accident, or who have suffered misfortune in any other way.
The MRBA may give an outright grant or make a loan. And sometimes it can supplement an applicant’s income for a time, when adverse circumstances reduce their ability to earn a living. Of course, every claim has to be investigated carefully, but the MRBA is as generous as it can afford to be.
Now you may know all this, but one of the biggest problems is that not everybody in the industry does -- and we can’t help in a case that we don’t know about.
Please make your colleagues and other friends across the industry aware of the MRBA and ensure that they let people in need know of the Association’s existence.
If you feel that anyone you know may need and be eligible for the help that the MRBA can give, please contact the MRBA Secretary/Treasurer, and be assured the enquiry will be treated as strictly confidential:

To enable it to continue with its work, the MRBA also needs the help of donors and volunteers from within the market research industry. If you would like to enquire about the ways you can do this -- say, through a regular subscription, a one-off donation, or by helping to arrange fund-raising activities -- please contact Samantha Doyle or visit our online donation site here. |
